# Spring planting in Australia (September–October)

General guidance; local conditions vary.

- **Temperate / warm temperate**: sow lettuce, rocket, spinach, silverbeet, beetroot, carrots, radish, spring onions, coriander, peas directly. Start tomatoes, capsicum, chilli, eggplant under cover; plant out when nights stay above ~10 °C (usually Oct–Nov). Beans, cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin from October (warm temperate) or later (temperate).
- **Subtropical**: warm-season crops straight out — tomatoes, capsicum, beans, cucumber, zucchini, sweet corn, basil. Finish leafy greens before humidity rises.
- **Cool / highland**: broad beans, peas, onions, hardy greens; potatoes as frost eases; warm-season seedlings under cover until late Oct–Nov.
- **Tropical**: end of dry season — Asian greens, snake beans, sweet potato, ginger, turmeric; prepare drainage for the wet.
- **Mediterranean / semi-arid / arid**: leafy greens, roots and legumes on spring moisture; plan mulch and irrigation for anything still growing in December.

Habits: watch night temperatures, sow little and often, mulch once seedlings are up.
